Well, what would you be doing in a sewer of eight metres of height and three kilometres of length? You’d definitely skateboard! Four courageous guys set out to conquer the underworld of Vienna. Their mission was to find the most extraordinary spot you could ever image, force their way in and ride their personal session. Red Bull Access All Areas followed in the footsteps of The Third Man to discover the perfect spot nine floors below the ground. A full pipe!
Roman Hackl, Jürgen Horrwarth, Roman Astleitner and Oliver Gordon couldn’t believe their eyes. There it was, right in front of them, deep down in the sewerage system of Vienna, waiting to be skated. The walls were as perfect as if the pipe had been constructed and engineered specifically for skateboarding.
Shortly after all the lights were installed the session was ready to be started. Roman presented some solid transition skills, Asti went for airtime, Oliver came up with technical tricks, and Jürgen smoothly surfed along the curves. The first spot allowed the riders to fully use the whole pipe. With the pitmen on site staring disbelief, the guys showed their skills along what would be called the perfect transition.
Jürgen, who had come all the way from Germany to skate here, was the only one who had a hard slam and thus, found out that the underworld of Vienna was a merciless place to be. Time out, Jürgen had to take a rest.
The second spot they tried was a side drain which the riders misused as a coping. In the view of such unbelievable and unique skate spots in his home town Roman was more than eager to showcase his „flips to fakie“, „blunts“ and „bigspins“. His friends were ready to follow him. Oliver hit the pipe with some „pop shovits“ and „flips to 5-O“ while Asti took up speed and rode some incredibly smooth and fast „tailslides“ and „transfers“.
Tomorrow, this place will be a sewer for 110.000 cubic metres of water, today it has been the perfect spot to skate. The water will cover over the marks of this unique skate session, and it will just be a handful of people who’ll able to claim that they have conquered the underworld of Vienna!
