It should last a little less than two months – the time from the session in Vienna’s sewerage system until the next.
A giant sawmill in Fügen, Tyrol (AUT), was the location the invited skaters where directed to.
The area of Binder Holz was the place of interest the whole first weekend of June.
The event this time was a bit different to the last Red Bull Access All Areas stops as during the two event days the skaters – Phillip Schuster, Andi Fugger, Manuel Margreiter, Mack McKelton just to mention a few – had to get creative themselves and build skate obstacles out of wood, giant machines and concrete palettes that were provided by the sawmill.
Andreas Schützenberger from IOU ramps was helping the skaters the first day with his expertise. After just half an hour an epic session started which all of the skaters will for sure remember their whole lifetime.
German skater Mack McKelton coming all the long way down from Berlin bruised his toes in the very first minutes of this first session. Not too bad but bad enough to be unable to actively participate in the skate action. As Mack is not an idle fellow he spent his time sitting on the wood piles and taking notes of his colleagues’ best tricks. Here is what he got for us:
Saturday, June 3rd: Everybody started warming up doing some flips over a puddle and wheelies over a small “wheelie pad”. A session down a pile of concrete slabs gaping onto another pile started. Switch ollie, 180, switch 180, nollie and kick flips went down! Moving on to the next spot – out of a kicker through a huge clamshell – Andi Fugger did a brilliant front side flip, Manuel Margreiter did a bs flip and 360° flip. Simultaneously to that a wheelie and pole jam session was going on. Phillip Schuster did some really amazing combos! Then a rail was set up outside and the boys – getting more and more by the way with some locals joining the Red Bull Access All Areas skaters – did some easy tricks.
Due to heavy rainfalls we had to move on and go indoors. With the help of two forklifts the boys created a curb and wheelie variation. The forklift made the difference in height and provided a unique experience. So much for the skate action of this first day in the sawmill.
The evening was spent with dinner in the smooth SichtBar, located in the area of Binder Holz 16m up in the air, and the Austrian video premiere of the Red Bull Skate Shot DVD for all the participants in a small cinema placed in the Sawmill. After the video premiere we had a flood light mini enduro race through a fun concrete race track that was spiced up with wooden ground and obstacles. Crazy and absolutely cool!
Sunday, June 4th: the first session began where it ended the previous day at the indoor wheelie/curb spot, due to rain. Again, Friedl Kolar and Chris Kröll from the Ästhetiker snowboard crew joined us some more skaters were coming to join the session as they had heard from their friends about that awesome usually inaccessible skate location.
Afterwards we skated a cool obstacle – a tree trunk over a timber pile. Sebastian Dorfer did a bs boardslide to fakie, a 50-50 and a bs feeble grind! WOW! The Carinthian Andi Fugger showed us bs board and bs lipslide!
Later on, the timber pile was enhanced with a concrete slab and together with the kicker a “hip” was created. Everyone had some fun on the hip until the rain once again terminated the session.
I had fun, even though I got injured … shit happens, but everyone stayed positive!
However, all things must come to an end and there is nothing more to do except nodding to Phillip’s words: Red Bull AAA makes it possible to skate such outrageous locations as the sawmill and all the skaters did their best.
