Red Bull Access All Areas in Naples
The event took place in Naples on Wednesday 19.12.08 in the deserted Steel factory of Italsider which is nowadays managed by the Bagnoli Futura committee.
The riders invited to take part of this adventure were Boaz Aquino from Israel, Fabio Montagner, Marco Giordano, Luca Crestani, Carlo Cassan from Italy and myself Mark McKelton from Germany.
The location was brilliant. We were all invited to check out the location on Tuesday, and to make any changes and offer ideas towards the obstacles we were going to ride the next day. On Tuesday it was raining, so we all spent the whole day getting psyched with ideas and checking out stuff we could put together. We had heard so many rumors about that place abandoned about 15 years ago that we didn’t really know what to expect. Instead we found a “Fullpipe” and much other usable trash. Looking back after the event and seeing the photos, I must say we transformed trash to treasure.
We got lucky with the weather. It was great all day. We met at 8:00am for breakfast, then went directly to the first location to skate. Everyone was motivated and the music was strong from the Hummer. It was still cold and dusty. We did our best to warm up and have fun. Some of us reserved energy for later. After that we went to a rough Manual Pad and road railing. After that we skated the Gas Station with more square flat rails and pole jams. The fronside boardslides were amazing!
Then we went to the favorite spot, the full pipe. Everyone tried to go as high as possible, and to do some mini ramp tricks, but a full pipe is not at all like a mini ramp. It was hard, but we all learned a couple of new things in there. It was dangerous but no one got injured. We left after I did an accidental loop attempt. When blowing our nose we also had rust particles in the tissue. The rust was everywhere…
Another location was the former car repair garage which we used as a gap for some nice tricks. We also signed the huge painting in the garage which some local writers had sprayed in the days of the event.
The outdoor action ended on the 800 meters long pier. It was a beautiful sunset with real harmony in the group. I hope the pictures and DVD footage will be as fun to look at and entertaining as the actual skate session was. Thank you to Red Bull for enabling us to skate treasures in a location, were others only saw trash.
