It was a grey Sunday in October, when a big crowd of skateboarders from all over Berlin entered the 'check in' at the airport Berlin Tempelhof. Check in started at 14h, but only for invited riders - lots got their Red Bull Access All Areas-ticket a few days before. So all they had to do was go to the account, and register at the nice Red Bull flight attendants to get through the security control to the airfield.

Tempelhof is Europe’s biggest building, about 1km long, with a 100m wide porch! Right there was the setup to be skated. Plus DJ, bar, lounge. It was dry, thanks to the roof, and looked quite impressive. Luckily even the concrete was smooth, so everyone was looking forward to the session.

The ramps were set up by Falko Nadol and Adam Sello in collaboration with the guys at Mellowpark, the 1. Berliner Skateboardverein and Till Kemner. The focus was on the centrepiece: three triangular shaped obstacles, which could be combined in different ways (kicker, curb, wheelie table). Not to mention the premium wood which was used for the extra pop of these ramps.

Falko made some extra effort to get a gangway and a baggage car to do some tricks, plus some quarters and banks were added, and a marble curb! The session on that nasty autumn day was about to start.

At 15:00 the area started to get crowded, most locals showed up (only a few like Juergen Horrwarth, Willow and Flo Bodenhammer were missing). And some guests entered the airport as well. Everyone expected a high class event, about 70 people gathered at Tempelhof. Just to name a few:

Yannick Schall, Christian Heitman, Max Luz, Arne Krüger, Maxim Rosenbauer, Mack McKelton, Nino Ullmann, Collin McLean, Michael Mackrodt, Christian Krone, Jan Kliewer, Dardan Sarbovic, Stefan Lehnert, Lennie Burmeister, Dimitri Stathis, Alex Kramer, Vincenz Golly, Daniel Skrobol, Max Kähni, Ingo Naschod, Roman Astleitner, Kilian Koschubat, Insa Giersberg ...

After a while, the session was under way. Sometimes the area looked like, well an airport at holiday - complete chaos, as many skated at the same time. Luckily there was time for everyone to take his break, as catering was on its way, and people could relax in the 60ies lounge with cooled Red Bull and free food!

Surrounded by some very fine tunes - thanks to the DJ, who played all day long - some people skated to the fullest. As we don't want to talk too much about details (DVD probably coming sometime after a couple of more sessions), some highlights have to be mentioned!

When the sun went down at about 17:30, no one thought about stopping the session. What for? Thanks to the perfect flood light the whole area was still skate able. The first people started to leave already, but a couple of guys got extra energized and attacked the park once more.

Michael Mackrodt and Chris Heitmann were fully motivated to skate until the final seconds - and Adam shot with his Super8 some amazing tricks in the atmospheric light.

The last shuttle departed at 18:45 to get the last guys back to the main hall at the airport. The impressions of the day were unique: the unsteady autumn weather, all the airplanes (it was a busy day though), the oversized airfield, the giant building, the strange obstacles and the gathering of almost any known face in Berlin.

And one more thing puzzled everyone: no competition, no price money, just a session with friends in a location, maybe no one will ever skate again. It was not about who's cool or who's better; it was just about having a good time. So thanks to everyone at the airport Tempelhof in Berlin, who made this possible. And of course thanks to all who made this happen ...

After the event, some people complained that they'd expected more airport obstacles to be skated. Others liked the setup, but there's always something you can change about a session, right? All the people, who really wanted to go out and have fun, had a nice session in a very cool location. And they pulled some big tricks - which you'll be able to watch pretty soon. So keep your eyes open and check this site regularly!
